friday fun times: pacific northwest bikey times

last week i went on vacation in the pacific northwest and saw some fun pro-bikey sentiments.

we need three patas feet of space!


yeah, most of us do this (safely) anyway, make it legit!


not unique just for seattle, but cute nonetheless


and my personal fave...the bike corral in the shape of a car. it visually represents the car parking space, which is for one car or the car parking space that can fit a lot of bikes!

friday fun times: bikes and besos.

this morning was riding to work part of the way with the boo. per usual, we kiss as we part ways, he goes forward, i turn left.

i couldn't find a picture of people that looked like us kissing while on bikes, so i am going to use this one instead taken in berlin, germany. it is pride month here in SF after all...



anyway, this morning, we had an audience. none other than andy thornley, the senior analyst at SF MTA's SF Park program. he was riding his bike as well and said, "i like seeing people on bikes kiss!" those two rode off in the same direction chatting it up. i blushed and went on my own merry way.

aww shucks, we've been outed being sweet! hehe.

happy friday everyone. i am going to take his kind words as a good sign for this weekend! i'll be bike marshalling at the SF Marathon. if you are running it, look out for a bright yellow vest at mile 24-26.2!

friday fun times: oakland's clitoral mass ride is tomorrow!

and to celebrate the ride (12pm in oakland, details here) we're gonna kick off this three day weekend with a trailer from one of the BADASS inspirations of the event, las ovarian psycos! they are doing community and bikes RIGHT.

friday fun times: biking for worker's rights

i, unfortunately, was unable to participate in may day festivities/marches/protests this year as i have a new job. ironically. as such, didn't feel comfortable enough to take off. and also had a board meeting that night. one of my infamous 12-hour work days. i hope next year's may day will be different.

anyway, here are some bikey and work type things i saw on may day, which was wednesday.

saw a cyclist on her way back from a civic center demonstration. she gave me permission to take her picture.

over where the work is never done, the new job has quite the bike commuter area.

happy friday everyone! we are experiencing some crazy warm weather here in northern california. some people are complaining it might be too hot to bike. NO WAY! hehe.

also... congrats to the golden state warriors for chomping down on some denver nuggets. they advance to the next round in the nba western conference playoffs. we'll have to see how they fare against my san antonio spurs!

friday fun times: be a bike hero

was walking around the neighborhood today on an errand...and saw this cuteness happen. i walked past then decided to go back and take a pic.

there was a bike locked up innocently. a tag was hanging from it saying, "thank you, you are a bike hero"





so even though this tag is totally viral marketing, it's cute, so who cares. :) and no need to click through or even scan a QR code. feel free to look them up on twitter.

friday fun times: sassy pants

so after the cinderella classic, there was OMGSHOPPING! and beer. we celebrated being done with an $8 fat tire and walked around a bit. cause, in case you haven't heard, women like to buy things. all these women like bikes. you make the connection.



these shorts were part of the fun stuff that i saw. designed by knights of mo' bay, who appears to be local. i particularly appreciated he was designing stuff for the female cyclist of color.

i decided to forgo the shorts, but walked away with a hat, a snap button jersey and shoe covers.

this weekend holds family time and marin century training ride in oakland. time to take the sequoia up some hills!

our friends over at san francisco yellow bike project are starting to ramp up their volunteer program.

here's a volunteer re-purposing a bike frame. i haven't heard back yet as to what it's going to be used as, but it got me to thinking...what do you do with old frames? if you are in the bay area, don't forget to donate old bikes and bike parts to SFYBP!

well, this week started off with a bang for us. to my knowledge, the jerk still hasn't been caught. left it up here this week to keep the word out.

with lance confessing thrown in the middle of this crazy first week back in the states, let's just say we are dreaming of simpler times and ones where we are with our loved ones and they are safe and sound. what better way to be with those loved ones than on a nighttime bike ride?!

i woke up freakishly early this morning. i saw my favorite bike rack bike hack and i also saw another bike with another note.

friday fun times: test riding edition

test riding? what's a test ride? well, i volunteer for SF bike party and we have an ambitious desire to go up twin peaks with riders of all abilities and those heavy music bikes. so we were scouting the route for the gentlest way up one of SF's iconic hills.

last year i saw the bill cunningham documentary a couple of times because i was so enamored by it and by him. i thought i had written a post about it, but i guess i didn't. here's the trailer. please go and see it. and for godssake don't offer him water while he works. he considers that a form of selling out. which would be fine because i think he might need money to replace the 28 bikes he's had stolen from him over the years.

friday fun times: snail mail edition

whatta week over here on CYLRAB!

first declan and una get new-to-them bikes, we had a bizarro joanie sighting and then ade confronted a bike thief with the help of some teenagers to get cameron his bike back. PHEW!

in much mellower news, i received a piece of snail mail from my (as of recently) former roommate. she went on a trip to her motherland of japan and also went to barcelona. who ever said we don't need the postal service is sorely mistaken.

she said this postcard reminded me of her. aww. indeed, it does look like something i would be up to here in sf if the weather was a tad warmer.

friday fun times: bike parking edition

i have been spending quite a bit of time working while parking bikes lately. i'm, frankly, exhausted.

took this picture last night as i was parking bikes for a pride meet + mingle at el rio. considering the traffic eff ups yesterday, i have to say that bikes were the way to get around the bay yesterday.



after the traffic snafus, i noticed a bunch of frustrated, and thus aggro, drivers. needed to be extra careful in the saddle yesterday!

i'm gonna get some miles in as training for the marin century has started! but first...SLEEP! have a great weekend everyone!

this weekend SATURDAY our friends over at san francisco yellow bike are collaborating with san francisco bike party and speakeasy brewery for a parts drive! donate your spare bike parts and bikes to SFYBP! and then drink some beer. responsibly of course. the SFBP ride meets at 3:30 in hayes valley and headed straight to the brewery.
