i've got video making on the brain lately. as such, i wandered to youtube/vimeo to see what i could find for today's edition of Arthursday.
here's a compliation of the submission to the bicycle film festival. we've talked about films we've seen there on the blog before. check it out if you are in a city where it is showing (it travels around the globe). last time i went to the festival, i heard the organizer said he's tired of coming to SF cause the gospel of the bike is already spoken. (hint: that doesn't mean you shouldn't show films here!)
either way, this is a nice compilation of bikes on film, digital or otherwise, a medium we rather love. enjoy!

Rising From Ashes
We always talk/read about the good outcome +the why of how bicycles benefit and make our life better +happier. As I was watching this trailer for an upcoming documentary, this quote came up:
1+minute of the trailer and it really made quite a lasting impression on me and, hope you like it.
Here is the trailer and I cannot wait to watch it once it's released:

"You cannot be a cyclists without going through an incredible amount of pain..."That hits the nail right on top for me, and not for physical reasons but a tremendous emotional hurricane of grief, loss and memories that hit me anytime I think or consider being back on the saddle and return to ride a bike on a constant basis.

friday fun times: bill cunningham caricature!
last year i saw the bill cunningham documentary a couple of times because i was so enamored by it and by him. i thought i had written a post about it, but i guess i didn't. here's the trailer. please go and see it. and for godssake don't offer him water while he works. he considers that a form of selling out. which would be fine because i think he might need money to replace the 28 bikes he's had stolen from him over the years.
either way, here's something i found on FB via belles bikes which lead me to the original posting of drawings by joana aviles. love the cheeky and informative caricatures!

gracias joana! and happy friday to everyone.

Green Up Your Ears
Streetfilms comes through again with this short film about greenways and bicycle boulevards in Portland. I got to ride this stretch of road back in September and it was a really nice experience of what simple changes, like changing the direction of stop signs, can do to make things easy. I would love to send copies of this to every street planner in SF (or anywhere, really) and have it burned in their memory- it can be done, we can have bicycle infrastructure that works and brings people out on their bicycles. It is being done now.

Obssesive? Maybe.
I just posted about my DIY bike fashion tendencies over at my other internet gig, Vélo Vogue. What I left out of that post is that I am somewhat obsessive about how my new cycling skirt moves. I knew when I picked the pattern that it would work well on the bike, but I didn't know I would find it so entertaining. There is obviously something very wrong with me.
