Bike Snob Speaks

One of the reasons I have not given up my car completely, is that I love to listen to public radio while I drive. Today's story of interest was about bike commuting in New York City ( something I would one day like to try as NYC is my second favorite city after SF). What was interesting, was hearing the voice of Bike Snob New York, who was interviewed for his perspective on cycling in NYC.

I love BSNYC's acerbic sense of humor and think his unique perspective is a valuable one. He is usually right on the money and he makes sure that none of us takes ourselves too seriously. True to form, he had some interesting things to say in the interview and is worth listening to.

  1. I know that it is often frowned on, but I really like listening to public radio podcasts on my iPhone while I bike. It's a nice way to catch up with the news.

I usually create a playlist with all the latest unheard items from PRI, NPR, and BBC and sync that up with my iPhone. Works great!

  2. I'm still getting over my disappointment that BSNY is not a woman.

You can download All Things Considered podcasts and listen to them on your iPod :)

  4. thanks for the link! I was at home when it aired and was going to listen to it, but then I had to pay attention to the kids for something and tuned it out. Later my husband who heard it driving home asked me if he heard it. He said " there was some bike blogger from NYC who spoke, um um Bike um um" I said " bike snob?" and he said " Yeah! Bike Snob NYC! That's it!"

And I we talked about it. I told him what I gathered from BSNYC, they would agree on a few things. ( That Electra bikes are pitas!)

anyway- long post to say I wanted to hear it and now I can without searching for it! Thanks!

  5. Thanks for the link! I like BSNYC; his humor seems to be inherently good-natured and all-accepting. His voice sounds different than I expected - very much like a chess playing Brooklyn grandpa.

  6. BSNYC is on the radio!!

Last year we were putting money down on who BSNYC could be. I thought it might have been Skye Yeager, but we figured out pretty quickly that it's not her.

  8. I am curious what made people think Bike Snob is a woman? The blog has always seemed distinctly male to me.

  9. adrienne: i totally agree. i never ever thought bikesnob was a woman. in my opinion, he has a very male point of view and way of speaking. not good or bad, just what i thought.
