this is not just a bike ride...

"this is not just a bike ride, this is how we change our community" indeed. even though riding bikes through latino and black communitys is "something we don't do."

looks like that's no longer true. thankfully. eastside riders bike club and los ryderz sound like they are doing great work!

UPDATE: sorry mobile viewers, it seems that this isn't available for viewing on mobile.

these groups ride together to pass out organic groceries in south la and telling residents where they can find local community gardens for more fresh food. sounds like this started in watts 5 years ago, where they also advocated for safe bike lanes.

as one of the organizers says, "think about where your food comes from. it's an opportunity to vote every time you put something in your mouth." WORD!

bike and food soldiers riding their way through south LA to fight obesity. i love this! keep it up!

Arthursday: tunnels

/link+art credit: work by Tatsuro Kiuchi via it's nice that.
Tunnels would be a big prominent birthmark if Critical was a human body. With the exception of the Geary and Park Presidio ones, tunnels are a frequent and quintessential experience whilst participating in a San Francisco critical mass ride.

Tomorrow is the 20th anniversary and here is more info, links and good stuff including purchasing/download of BEAUTIFUL poster done by rad local artists: SF Critical Mass

I've expanded the usual short+sweet Arthursday a bit, including a few San Francisco tunnel shots as well as one from Los Angeles by our 4th amiga in Los Angeles: Caryl (first photo below) +the rest them are from the 3 of us here in SF :)

figuring it out together. biking in LA with babies.

guess who has a new haircut? and a big smile. why is that smile so big?

mateo trailer bici

cause someone is now on the back of the bike.

mateo bici 2

this story is as much mateo's as it is his mom's. she's been trying to figure out how to ride a bike in LA, with not as many friends that are as into bikes like some of her friends back in SF, her hometown.

mateo bici 4

so, being the smart and tough cookie that she is, she just dived into it headfirst and now has the bike and the trailer that works for her to go with it.

mateo bici 3

look at that smile. i asked his mom how he liked it. these are her words: he liked it, and was laughing! he was also a little confused, like WTF is this contraption?

heh. indeed. looks like there's room in there for two. bike party time! EL LAY kiddo style. yah, he might have a sticker. or three. time to add music to that bike. elmo sound system anyone?
