At close to $10,000 USD, I think I will have to pass on it. Although, the fact that I could make tea in this makes it very, very attractive. Not that I need to carry a mobile home behind me while I am bicycling to the grocery store, but I have been thinking about disasters, lately. Not in a doomsday way, but just in a practical way. My family lives in earthquake country and the last big one was something else (and not that big, really). I find myself wondering about how to get out of town if we need to.
The reality of our situation is that we have an Xtracycle (carries 250lbs), a cargo bike (carries 300lbs), a Burley trailer (carries 150lbs) and a knock off Bob trailer (craps out with anything over 30lbs). If civilization collapses around us tomorrow, we will be able to get out with a pretty good haul of our stuff. We have seen it in Japan and the American South that it only takes about 30 seconds to make life where you live unlivable, so thinking this way isn't that far fetched.
Still, a rolling living room could be interesting. There are options...
I LOVE this little trailer! But, besides being cute, it is actually rather practical for those who don't want - or can't, put down many roots. And for those that are now so unfortunately homeless due to disasters, I think these would make some of them very happy.
ReplyDeletePortable tea makes EVERYTHING better! Trust me on this : ) I agree, that something like this would be great for a lot of homeless folks in Japan or Haiti or Missouri. Any space, even very cramped space, that you don't have to share with 100 other people is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteAdrienne, I love this post and I love this little trailer (life as we know it is so very fragile)...I may re-post some of the links if you don't mind.

Share away, Joe! I love that Bushtrekka trailer! Imagine that and your Mundo together... you could survive almost anything with that combo!
ReplyDeleteThat is the coolest thing ever. I love it. In addition to being a neat mobile home, I'm thinking how cool that would be at camping type festivals. Hell picnic in the park, oh do you need a nap, take a lay down. But yes, this would be my type of camping.
ReplyDeleteI know! I can think of many things I would take this to. How perfect at the beach? I need to get out of the sun, but I don't want to leave... Think I'll take a nap right here in my little living room. Starts raining at the outdoor concert? I am covered. Bar is too crowded, that's OK, I have mine with me!
