Come As You Are

Yesterday the CTX brought you a lovely moment to start your week.  Today I bring us down a few notches with my camera.  I think we should not get too high brow around here.

It Is SF

We always say ride in what makes you comfortable.  Flip flops and shower caps would fit that bill.

It Is All A Rainbow

This weekend was Pride weekend in San Francisco (many other places, too). Like myself, the San Francisco Gay Pride Parade is 41 this year. I like to think we both are looking pretty good. And in both cases, bicycles have become a part of the celebration.

Nice Muscles

There was, of course, the leather boy biker. It wouldn't be Pride without the leather boy (or the naked biker guy, but I didn't get a good shot of him).

Hi, Jill!

Jill brought her bubble machine to ensure that proper SF bicycle event etiquette was observed. She was not only with the SFBC contingent (didn't get any good shots of them, either. I was in a bad spot), she seemed to just ride along the sides of the route and keep spirits up. Not a bad gig.

Love Is A Bike Family

For the last few years, the Parade has been changing. What was a call to keep people alive back in the 90's is now a call to just let people get on with the perfectly normal parts of life we all think we will participate in when we grow up- get married, have kids, have jobs... This year there were many groups marching to show that being gay does not mean you look that much different than anyone else.

Up Front

Of course, we all look better on a bike! No matter how many Moms we have! Or Dads. We don't discriminate around here.

Fraternity Tandem Time

People showed up to watch the spectacle on their bikes. Some decided to ride in threes.

Sideline

Others watched alone.

Silly Heads

Úna and Declan got silly in the closed off street,

There He Is!

and Cameron marched with the Assemblywoman he is working for this summer!

Not a bad Pride Parade, in my book. I love my City.

How far is far.

Far
How far is your commute to work? your happy hour or dinner outside your neighborhood? your trip to get groceries? your ride to go meet with freinds? The other day heading to work I was thinking that I would do all of these in one day. Do you?
I dont live in the central part of the city. Neither does Adrienne. We pride ourselves in living in opposite ends of the city and so when we all meet, we head near where Melyssa lives, kind of. So all 3 of us - at any given day, we at least ride 8-9 miles, easy.
Anyone that tells us that Laurel heights, the Marina, Glen Park or Sea Cliff is far - we just look at them and wink at each other.

This is a picture of Lombard street (yes that curvy postcard shot) that tourist destination sits behind me, and past a (guess!?) steep hill. On the other side, looking westbound lies this. Not a bike friendly street, but a pretty sight. To head towards the fog, you can ride on north point/francisco or on greenwich. Both have bike lanes and are very traffic-quiet.

Say hello to our little fog.

tuesday injection of fun: pride and perpetual indulgence

so, being that 75% of the contributors of this blog live in SF, i do think it would be remiss not to mention that this month, june, is pride month. rainbow flags are happily flapping in the fierce winds, tangling themselves around their posts from the financial district to the beach.

and just the other day i stumbled upon a sister. a sister of perpetual indulgence that is.

NOT the actual sister i saw. i think.

i was at an intersection on the border of the castro on joanie baby patiently waiting to cross market street, when i see a single solitary sister enter the cross walk. and she just looked so awesome and confident, i just HAD to say something.

me: (dingding) oh heeeey gurrrl! (waving)
sister: (looks around confused, sees me, smiles) hey! happy pride!
me: happy pride!

so, yeah, happy pride everyone!

addendum: now that i think about it, this post fits under the first (and already closed) part of the fun and inspiring LGRAB summer games! if you haven't checked it out yet, please do! you could win a rad bat and be like ade riding all over your town.
