happy bike to work day!

for me, everyday is bike to work day. so during bike to work WEEK, i try to dress up a little bit more to be a good ROLL model.

these past couple of days have been pretty warm (for SF standards), so time to bring out the dresses!

there are thousands of new bikers expected to hit the streets. here in SF, local officials have a VIP ride and the mayor, along with other city officials and policy makers, rides to city hall on a (his?) bike. this shows how much work the SFBC has done in order to have some political clout at city hall.

and on that note, i'm off to find an energizer station and some swag!

  1. We have a ride to work day in Melbourne. Like you I ride to work whenever I can so it's not really a day for me, but it's a day to encourage others. When I had a car though I still had to encourage myself to ride. Now that I don't it's just so natural to ride.

I'm not sure about the ride to work promotions though. Like I've said before, make petrol twice the price and that will get more people on bikes. I know it's a tough approach but I'd give 10:1 that I'm right.

    1. i think your economics approach would work. congestion pricing in london seem to have worked: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/datablog/2012/apr/30/lond-road-use-data

also giving incentive to bike (much like car/gas subsidies) will also likely work because it worked for cars: http://www.good.is/post/can-discounts-convince-londoners-to-bike-and-walk
