This evening, on the way home from a fun evening out with KT, I had what just may be the ultimate bicycle experience. I was t-boned by a rat! It ran out of nowhere, hit my shoe, ran between my wheels (as I was moving!) and continued into the bush at my side. It was a big sucker, too!
I wonder if it took off because it was uninsured?

LOL a hit and run with rat. At least it didn't bite! I'm sure it doesn't have insurance to cover diseases.
ReplyDeleteA rat is a new one on me, but in the old days, when I used to ride through farmland, I had similar encounters with many dogs, including one that ended up darting between my wheels. In the city, though, dogs-chasing-bicycles is a rarer occurrence, for which I am thankful.
ReplyDeleteYipes!
ReplyDeleteI have a high "flinch" reaction to stuff like that, I worry that I'd over-react and cause an accident even if I didn't hit the dang thing.
Gah... I'm glad it didn't run into your wheel, get caught in the spokes, and cause you to crash. I hear this happens quite a bit with squirrels, and it's usually the cause of a broken collarbone or wrist. Ugh... Glad you're okay!
ReplyDeletei feel pretty confident rolling past irate taxis, parked vans, unsignaled turns, etc. but dogs (leashed and unleased) racoons, skunk, and rats are so unpredictable.
ReplyDeletebtw i once swerved to avoid a j-walking skunk family -- immediately heard "whoop whoop!!" and hit with lights. cop had stealthed me 10 blocks since i buzzed him while passing a bus!!! sneaky SOB! "yessuh" 10 mins to avoid $300 ticket for running stops! =|
ReplyDeletestill, least i didn't wreck on a heap of skunk.
that was ratta!! - no wonder he told me he ran into you guys...
ReplyDeletewe also saw him at the SFBP by the piers... LOL =)
