Bikes On Credit

Alright. I hate these ads. They get stuck in my head and make me grumpy. However, this one at least does not show us in a terrible light. When he gets denied credit, it is at the bike shop, not the car lot. This means that those of us on bicycles here in the USA are finally making an impact. It may not be the best ad, but we are not portrayed as idiots or freaks and we are encouraged to keep riding. I'll take it!

  1. Haha... rejected at the bike shop! Not even cool enough for one of those.

  2. A big improvement I'd say to the films where a peloton of bikers means we'll soon be seeing the domino effect in full-lycra-color action. (What exactly is so funny about seeing cyclists fall over?)

  3. although it cracks me up that the "cheap bike" they let him buy is a nice vintage bike that one would be lucky to find on CL or whatnot. - I think a local for me bike shop had matching his and hers bikes like his and I bet they were a pretty penny.

  4. A shop semi-local to me had a matching set of barn beauties (they're out in the farm land and haunt the estate auctions. I'll bet they paid $20); $500; apiece. And I live in a decidedly bike unhip area.

That's more than a new Torker 3 speed with fenders and rear rack; which is itself a hundred more than their budget fixie.

On the other hand I just missed a genuine "just come take it out of my garage and it's yours." Bummer. It was candy apple red too.

In much of the country the problem with finding a vintage 3 speed is that they aren't considered worth enough to exceed the bother of digging them out of the barn, so they just sit there and rot while someone who would love it can't find one to buy.

    It's a funny world.

  5. It looks like a Raleigh Sports, complete with light and original equipment. He's luckier than he knows.

  6. That ad has been going around for awhile. Personally I think the joke is on the property master for that ad. That bike is Raleigh Superbe, those have been fetching $300+ on ebay. I have mine and currently it is not for sale at any reasonable price ;-)

  7. when i saw this commercial I felt so happy to be mocked on, part of the 'outsiders' part of the 'rebelious' hell yea. and the funny part is that with a 2-wheeled machine frees you up from owing 20,000 + in your credit card for a card. we get last laughs - yeahhh...

  8. I am nothing if up to date with all of the latest ads : ) I have never seen it before, but either way, I am just happy to see a person on a bike be the good guy in an ad.

Let them think the bike is junk. That will help keep the price on them down!

  9. Just don't sign up for FCR.com. It's not free and to get the support in India to stop charging your credit card is a real hassle.
