When I originally read this post I assumed it was another reflection of the suburban car culture mindset that really seems to dominate that metro area. However, when I linked to the AZCentral ariticle I learned that Gilbert enjoys bike friendly distinction from the American League of Bicyclist and that the policy of the Gilbert public schools is to encourage biking and walking to school. It's strange that at a time when most schools are struggling to discourage helicopter parenting the Edu-Prize School seems to promote it. Instead of allowing children to develop autonomy and the skills to use the road responsibily (including under the watchful eye of parents biking with their kids to school!) the Edu-Prize School has decided to keep kids helpless. She Rides a Bikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10269615938898501712noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8810099708146569685.post-54546075888360673912012-06-04T07:41:12.535-07:002012-06-04T07:41:12.535-07:00This comment has been removed by the author. She Rides a Bikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10269615938898501712noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8810099708146569685.post-21770024275080321222012-05-30T13:46:43.661-07:002012-05-30T13:46:43.661-07:00"Idiocracy" is so apt here. I hear about..."Idiocracy" is so apt here. I hear about these stories and my brain just can't handle the idiotic ways in which school (and other so-called) officials think. Instead of helping to make walking and biking to school safer where they are, the only 'solution' they have is to ban walking and biking?!?

This is car-centricity run amok. They are so entrenched in car culture that even considering other modes of transportation or challenging the status quo of transportation legislation might actually cause physical harm.Tim McFarlanehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03309424145625878126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8810099708146569685.post-77244023061514166502012-05-30T12:50:15.327-07:002012-05-30T12:50:15.327-07:00well said adewell said adeMELI.https://www.blogger.com/profile/01871688353021351859noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8810099708146569685.post-32624447720372822792012-05-30T02:46:30.295-07:002012-05-30T02:46:30.295-07:00Quite nice. It's called "in loco parentis" and applies to primary and secondary school levels of public schools (though there is much more involved than I'm explaining here). Don't know if it applies to private schools, though.Sherrillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00951353660143205438noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8810099708146569685.post-59381125346025549042012-05-29T18:18:08.126-07:002012-05-29T18:18:08.126-07:00Thank you, ma'am.Thank you, ma'am.Adrienne Johnsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16658593098911314756noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8810099708146569685.post-31388937155536885072012-05-29T16:27:49.962-07:002012-05-29T16:27:49.962-07:00Awesome! Part of the reason we chose to move to the neighborhood we did was because the safe routes to school group was working so hard. Who doesn't want to live in a neighborhood where it is safe for kids to walk and ride to school?Cosmohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08364487305473753277noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8810099708146569685.post-33432099466293329322012-05-29T13:53:40.905-07:002012-05-29T13:53:40.905-07:00love this post ade!love this post ade!calitexicanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16257014894653568163noreply@blogger.com
