friday fun times: rainy days ahead
april's showers brings may's flowers. gotta love spring :)
we desperately need rain in the bay area as our winter has been relatively rain-free. heavy rains are expected this weekend. time to cover up and ride or cover up and ride muni.
i'm more prepared to ride in rain, however gross rain pants look. sigh. they really do help with keeping dry, just like a raincoat helps out with keeping dry from the knees up.
tights are also an awesome option because they dry quickly.
so my longer ride this weekend is canceled. need to get some miles in before next weekend's metric century with my alumni group. might have to suck it up and pay for a day in a gym. :)
have a fantastic weekend y'all!
do you have rainy day pics to add to our flickr group? post today!

friday fun times: freedom and sunday streets
sunday streets is back in SF starting this sunday! i will be gone walking among green things not too far away...so unfortunately i will miss it. i do believe ade is skipping out on portlandia to take pics and celebrate with SF.
i'm very excited for sunday streets because it coincides nicely with san francisco's recent bikey friendly legislation. some say it is the strongest bike friendly legislation in the U.S.
the ordinance requires that downtown building managers have secure indoor bicycle parking for employees either in their building or guarantee secure parking in a building within a few blocks! a frequent complaint to riding bikes to work is fear of theft. i carry two ulocks for that very reason. what a relief to so many future bike commuters.
why not celebrate that with the extremely popular, and expanding, sunday streets. last year sunday streets was in 8 locations. this year, we will have 10!

friday fun times: mixte parking only
things were looking a little mixte-crazy over on a bike rack at a busy intersection in SF recently.

they must have put up a sign saying "mixte only plz. kthx."
it's not every day you see three mixtes parked up on bike racks. i would love to see that happen more often. mixture of the old and the new. it's all good.
happy friday y'all!

Big & Small
Happy Friday, from those both near and far!
It seems to be that when I ride around I am always finding things to remind me of those I love. A good reason to ride!

Bike My Beer
You go for a ride, you have a beer. While this may not be true for you, it is for the 98 out of a hundred other people that rode around you. In the past, if you were one of those 98 people in Portland, you would have to ride your bike to a place with beer to make this inevitable combination of events happen. Not anymore!
Welcome Beer Bike 2.0 by Metrofiets! After the amazing response they got to their first beer bike for Hopworks, the boys decided that maybe it was time they had their own! Two kegs, two taps, fully self contained, with music system on board.
The best thing about it? You can rent it and make your party soooo much bikier! Delivered to you (as long as you are within peddling distance of it in the first place), picked up and cleaned so that all you have to do is plug in your keg of choice.
Throw a little hors d'ouvres spread on the top, get your bike gang to swing by your place and it is on!

And should the need arise, you could have a little kid transport added to the mix.

friday fun times: biking to watch the game
on the first day of the world cup, KT and i met up at a cafe to watch the mexico v. south africa match. they didn't have sound at the cafe, so we relocated to the irish bar nearby. oh did they have the sound. and lots of south african fans. errr..?
anyway, here's her video of her arrival

friday fun times: beachy sunsets
as the sunset of the work week races once again to the western horizon, here's a picture for you:
we rode here from a dolores park picnic to the beach in about 20 minutes. this was a last minute impulse decision, and we were determined to make it to either baker beach or ocean beach before the sun set. can you tell which one this is? does it matter?
this was only the beginning of a really nice rest of the weekend. hope you have the same this time around!
addendum: this impromptu bikey date falls under social cycling section of the LGRAB summer games! go and read fun stories!

friday fun times: casual friday panda
it is a bright and beautiful day here in san pancho, califas, usa.

[bikestuffbikestuffblogstuff]
[pedal around stupid car making dumb decisions behind a bus he shouldn't have been behind anyway cause he was supposed to turn, but DIDNT and a rush of bikers surrounded him on all sides]
ok, here's my stop.

laters, see ya around!

johnny legs
i didn't know that john leguizamo was pretty into riding his bike. luckily for us, cnn.com did and got footage of him running around nyc on his bici. check out his helmet stash...and watch him nearly get doored by nypd.
i'm particularly a fan of his reasons for why he rides. it's not just him "sav[ing] the world" as the cnn title suggests (although that is totally valid...). his reasons sound a lot like the ones we here at CYLRAB have said before: less stress, faster, enjoyable, etc. this makes me think he's the real deal. bummer to hear his wife does not join him after she nearly got hit by a car. puro sad face, #nobueno.
and here's the behind the scenes:
nice to see a latino celebrity-type talking about this stuff.
have a great weekend and happy riding. gonna be beautiful here in the yay. enjoy!!
thanks to CI for the forward on facebook :)

"hey, i know that bike"
one of my favorite things about riding on market street during the morning commute (a short list to be sure), is talking to friendly people on bikes. another one of my favorite things is running into people i know. san francisco is so small, that the chances are high you'll see someone familiar on the bikeway.
today's installment was one omar. friend of meli. on way to werky times.
i was getting ready to pass someone and thinking how i like how my new shoes are on my pedals when i heard, "hey you." i turn and i see mr. omar. i was running super late to work, but there's always time to say hi and chat it up a bit.
you just can't get that in a car. or on muni/bart (for the most part). nice start to the day.
happy friday!

springing into sunday...
last friday i went to a show with some other bikey people. 6 of them had bikes. while waiting for the changes at mojo's to literally cement into place, we decided to all park together. we're bike pile stylin'.
pre-show:
post-show:
now really, who is going to be bold enough to mess with that pile style?
happy springing forward this evening everybody! days are only going to get longer...more time in the saddle. i, for one, am excited! :)

TGIF!!
I hearts this picture.
This has become our parking spot for Chilango's on Church st. which is the spot to be for filling Mexico City bites. Ade, Melyssa and I try to go at least once every 2 weeks. We bring the girls and occasionally our good guy friends. This was a couple of Fridays ago.
Park and party –Rock on :D

friday fun times: basket leaving
people leave the strangest things in my beloved bike basket.
example number one: a plush bart simpson doll. i went to see a movie, and when i came out, bart was there.
example number two: a picnic ready date minus the food and the date. fork, knife, napkin rolled up and tied together with a black rubber band.
if you have a basket on your bike, has this happened to you too? please share the fun things your city or town has given you in your bike basket. happy friday everyone!
