A reader sent me this for me to post over at Bikes and The City though, I'd like to share it here too.
I really liked the idea, need to demonstrate, make a point. What are your thoughts?

How dare they! I like it.
ReplyDeleteSo true. Occasionally caught on LA fwy clutching in and out of first gear. Clutch and blend, clutch and blend. Those are the times I wish I had my bike...
ReplyDeleteI was just driving this stretch, yesterday. I was lucky, it was a quiet time, but I have seen it bumper to bumper. The anger and frustration just pours out of the exhaust pipes. It happens in San Francisco, too. When I watch the video it brings up so much. My first reaction is to fear for their safety, but then I think "what the hell are they doing! This doesn't help!" and then I feel my inner rebel wishing I was with them....
ReplyDeleteThis kind of thing is good because it gets us thinking. It challenges us to revisit our habitual thinking and look at things from a new perspective. No matter what side we fall on, at least we get the chance to think about it and maybe find a new way to come at what we all want- a better world that isn't clogged with pollution and fear.
AJ, I had the exact same set of thoughts in the same order. I didn't know whether to go woot or to hold my breathe waiting for a car to slam into one of them. the music didn't help my nerves too much either even though I loved it.
ReplyDeleteI really love this kind of protest for just that reason- it isn't easy to pinpoint your feelings about it and you have to pause and think.
ReplyDeleteI get it that they are trying to make a point, and I don't really have any issues with them riding on the freeway ~ but what I thought didn't help was running the red light for a left turn at the beginning.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't make sense because they are both breaking the law, but riding on the freeway seems like "protest" running red lights in front of traffic seems like "bad cyclist".
Great video though!!
I was sold when I saw the tall bike.
ReplyDeleteI understand what they were doing and think this is an appropriate way to make a point / protest. But I feel like there's much more positive ways to influence people. For example, just riding our bikes instead of driving and talking with our friends and families about it.
